CHARACTER
Character Name: Harry Potter
Character Age: 17
Canon: Harry Potter
Canon Point: After the battle of Hogwarts
World Description: N/A
History: HP Wiki
Personality:
One defining quality of Harry is his ability to trust and love, despite everything he's been through. It would have been just as likely that he would turn out to be a hateful and rotten child but instead he was nearly always ready to accept others. That's not to say that he immediately trusts people or that he doesn't have to be figuratively hit upside the head to understand that person enough to love them. What I mean is, once he understands them and their heart, no matter what wrongs he thinks they've done he can move past that and accept them in his heart. A perfect example of this is his roller-coaster relationship with Sirius Black.
There's also an impressive capacity for kindness, thoughtfulness, and compassion in him. I believe a lot of that stems from his terrible childhood, where he was always the down-trodden one, the outsider, and unwanted. Harry can sense those emotions in others such as Dobby the house elf and even Luna Lovegood. He doesn't care that it's not the popular choice to be friends with either one of them. Harry's kindness and sincere concern for them makes him a genuine friend to the both of them. I also think that's what makes him a good leader later on when he helps his classmates in Dumbledore's Army. In a way, all of the students who join are outcasts and going against the grain, something Harry knows a lot about.
Harry is also defined by his courage. Even at eleven years old he stands up for himself, for others, for what he believes in, and faces unimaginable hardship and danger. That trend continues right on through his time at Hogwarts. He gets downtrodden and often feels sorry for himself, but it's little wonder that he does. What's admirable is that he keeps going and keeps fighting no matter how bad it gets or how worn thin he might feel. Although, it's important to note that sometimes his courage manifests as less than honorable and more like blustering arrogance!
Harry trusts his friends completely and is completely trustworthy in return. However, he isn't always the best of friends and especially when he lets his heated temper get the better of him, could be downright rude and dismissive of them. He was also stupidly over protective of his friends at points, even when he really needed their help or would actually be putting them in greater danger unknowingly.
As I mentioned before, Harry wasn't the most studious. He only took his school and grades seriously enough to pass his OWLs, which was a requirement for becoming an Auror (his chosen profession). Everyone knows Hermione was the smart one but Harry was no idiot either. He always seemed to have a clever and quick-witted response in times of great need and his practical solutions truly shone when it mattered most. From the first time we met Harry, he was a boy who had a strong intuition and was usually not led astray by it. We also see that subtle cleverness of his with his dry, witty comebacks.
The last thing I want to mention is his need to prove himself while showing great humility at the same time. It's said many times in the books and movies that Harry "is a great wizard." While he does have remarkable raw magic talent, that was never what made him stand out. It was the qualities I described above which ultimately led him to be able to make his ultimate sacrifice: love, compassion, kindness, courage. Harry was at times famous and infamous in the wizarding world, but he never let it get to his head and he never welcomed the limelight. When there was an opportunity for him to try and prove himself he was brave about doing so, but he was never a braggart about it, which is one of the qualities about him I admire most.
Inventory: The raggedy clothes on his back and the Elder wand.
Abilities: Harry is a gifted wizard with a solid education in magic, even if he wasn't the best student academically. He excels at being a good friend, of following his morals, staying true to himself, and he's a decent leader.
Flaws: Harry is a bit broken, and he's far from perfect. He's seen taking petty revenges, of wishing harm on others, of accusing people without thinking things through, of not trusting people he should, of taking things too personally, of being self-centered at times, and so on. In short, he has all the normal flaws of someone who has been through a lot in his life.
